Crash Investigation
Course
A team approach to crash investigation
Description
Participation in this two-day course will provide a unique framework for
professionals working in motor vehicle safety and injury control to become
aware of the complexities involved in understanding how people get injured
in car crashes and the need for a multidisciplinary approach. There will
be opportunities for participants to interact through lectures,
discussions and examination of real world crashed vehicles.
Special Feature
Participants will have an opportunity to rotate through four stations of
actual crashed cars, guided by experienced crash investigators, to apply
the information learned in the lectures. The information gathered "at the
scene" will be discussed from both medical and engineering perspectives.
Course Objective
-
Define crash investigation terminology and
introduce techniques.
-
Describe from both medical and engineering
viewpoints essential information about a crash scenario and potential
injuries.
-
Illustrate the fundamental aspects of
investigation by crash type (frontal, side, rearend, rollover).
-
Identify elements that are specific to a
particular crash mode (e.g., roof crush in rollovers).
-
Explain reconstruction problems with
complicated crash events, such as multiple impacts.
-
Describe new crash investigation technology.
